Joseph Odenthal obituary Joseph M. Odenthal, 70, of Heidelberg died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee. Visitation will be held at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery on Sunday, November 8 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral services will be at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Heidelberg on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Scholastica Church Cemetery in Heidelberg.
Joseph was born to John and Veronica (Blaschko) Odenthal in New Prague on April 22, 1939. He attended St. Raphael’s Catholic School in Montgomery and graduated from Montgomery High School. He and Carol Bornholdt were married at St. Scholastica Catholic Church on September 9, 1961. Together they farmed and raised three children.
Joseph was a retired member of the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, the Knights of Columbus at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery and a past trustee of St. Scholastica. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, spending time at the cabin, and working on tractors.
He is survived by three children, Randy & Laura Odenthal of Heidelberg, Rick & Penny Odenthal of Circle Pines, and Renee & Troy Odenthal-Brett of New Prague; 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth and Julie Jo Odenthal, Allen and Veronica Bartusek, and Taylor and Hailey Brett; brother, Fran & Geri Odenthal of Heidelberg; sister-in-law, Millie Odenthal of Heidelberg; brother-in-law, Bob Smisek of Savage; and nieces and nephews.

Joseph is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gerald; and two sisters, Rita Hesse and Anne Smisek.
